||SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative for CFSP, saying (in SPANISH) that President Uribe has all their support on his fight against terrorism; that he has some ideas and all the ideas he will put on the table will receive the support of the EU.
||Álvaro Vélez Uribe, President of Colombia, saying (in SPANISH) that the battle of Colombia against violence is the battle of the democracy. This is what makes the difference between Colombia and other historical process of the continent where the fight was between "guerrillas" and dictators. In Colombia they have a democracy that is threaten by terrorism that its financed by illicit drugs.
||Javier Solana saying (in SPANISH) that what terrorists have to do is to release hostages without conditions, immediately; that there is no justification for them and this idea must be understood by people of good faith.
||Javier Solana saying (in ENGLISH) on the list of "terrorist groups" that there is no reason to change their position.
Álvaro Vélez Uribe saying (in SPANISH) that he will try to be also very brief; that they are not going to do it: on the 20th December the EU ratified its inclusion on the list of terrorists. There is an European legislation that says that terrorism is an armed action or a threat against democracy for political reasons. And what is valid here is also valid in Colombia.
||Álvaro Vélez Uribe saying (in SPANISH) that they understand the point of view of the governments of Bolivia and Equator, and it is very important that EU helps us understanding this diversity, respecting the different opinions in the Andean Community and deciding which chapters have to be included in the negotiation; that he thinks that with a good understanding of this diversity and a good understanding of the need of that agreement, they can speed the negotiation.
