Type: Visit to the Commission
End production: 21/01/2008 First transmission: 21/01/2008
Peter Mandelson, Member of the EC in charge of Trade, held talks in Brussels with Susan Schwab, United States Trade Representative. They discussed bilateral trade frictions, such as controversial new GM technologies, biodiesel tax credit or phytosanitary issues like the longstanding question of US poultry's access to EU markets. They also discussed multilateral relations such as Russia's accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) or the Doha round. The European Union and the United States, key players in the WTO, want to step up efforts to bring the Doha round negotiations to a successful conclusion by the end of 2008.
