José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC paid his first official visit to Estonia on 20 December 2007 to coincide with its Schengen membership celebrations. Estonia join the Schengen area and drop border controls as from midnight. José Manuel Barroso and Siim Kallas, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Administrative Affairs, Audit and Anti-Fraud, met in Tallinn with Toomas Hendrik Ilves, President of Estonia, Andrus Ansip, Estonian Prime Minister, and Members of the Estonian Parliament. José Manuel Barroso also adressed a group of civil servants at a conference held in the evening.
