Ján Figel’, Member of the EC in charge of Education, Training, Culture and Youth, participated in Brussels in the Golden Stars Award Ceremony "Activite Citizenship in practice", aimed at enhancing citizen participation in the construction of Europe. The ceremony presented ten exemplary projects from civil society organisations and town twinning initiatives, selected by an external jury. The awards were handed out by the Commissioner. Examples of projects that received the Golden Star award 2007 are an information campaign targeting the three main immigrant populations of Greece, Albanians, Bulgarians and Russians, in Greece; an interactive education project involving youth and pupils in Sweden and three Baltic countries, in Sweden; and an interfaith-conference aimed at overcoming prejudices between people of different cultures, religions and convictions, in Belgium.
