Following his bilateral meeting with José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, earlier that day, Bamir Topi, President of Albania, held talks with Olli Rehn, Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement. They discussed Albania's current political situation, the EU accession process, Albania's efforts in the fight against organised crime and corruption, and the country's role in stabilising the Balkans region. The previous year, Albania signed a Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), the first formal step towards possible EU membership.
