Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative for CFSP, met with Helen Clark, Prime Minister of New Zealand. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on international issues of mutual interest, and to sign an agreement between the European Union and New Zealand on the participation of Wellington in the European Union Police Mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL Afghanistan). Later that day, Helen Clark also met with José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, to talk about the relations between the European Union and New Zealand. Climate change was also one of the key points of the agenda.
