||José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, (in FRENCH) addressing former Commission's officials;
saying that they have offered an immense gift because they have told a great human history by showing how Europeans of different nationality, language, culture, national administration, overcame these differences to invent a new culture only guided by the European general interest
||José Manuel Barroso (in FRENCH) saying that this administration is as good as others or even better than most of the national administrations; it is essential to maintain this spirit of Excellency; the national administrations do not have to justify day after day their existence because by definition they think that they are eternal; on the contrary, the European administration needs to justify its existence every day, to justify why a supra-national administration, a European Commission, is necessary; this is why this spirit of devotion and passion to the European cause must be maintained, but also a spirit of exigency with ourselves
