On her way to attend the 62nd General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, Sahana Pradhan, Nepalese Minister for Foreign Affairs, stopped over in Brussels for a meeting with Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Member of the EC in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy. They discussed EU/Nepal relations, as well as the current Nepalese political climate and ongoing peace process, and the preparation for the Constituent Assembly elections, scheduled for 22 November 2007. They also raised problems faced by Least Developed Countries as well as the Bhutanese refugee problem in Nepal. The EU will be monitoring the forthcoming Constituent Assembly elections as it is supporting the Nepali Peace Trust Fund to help ensure the success of these crucial elections.
