High level Conference on Legal Immigration: extracts from the speech by Franco Frattini

In the context of the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union, Pedro Silva Pereira, Portuguese Minister for the Presidency, and Rui Pereira, Portuguese Minister for Internal Administration, sponsored a High Level Conference on Legal Immigration that was held on 13-14 September 2007 in Lisbon. This conference was a good opportunity to launch an open debate on the development of a global approach to migrations: a global policy for a global problem. Under debate were the problems of legal immigration, integration of immigrants and the contribution of migrations to development.
