EU/Lebanon: institutional cooperation (Qualeb Quality Programme)

In order to improve the access of Lebanese products to international markets and to strengthen the level of the consumer protection, Lebanon should get into a culture of quality, a key factor regarding the potential of European consumers' today really demanding. The EU support in this area will enable the Lebanese production to reach various targets in this quality chain: at the institutional level, at a technical and concrete level for companies and at consumers' level. The product quality remains a major challenge in Lebanon where deficiencies range from certification to international norms for food and non food products. Difficulties were present at different level of the quality chain: legislation, procedure, companies with an important impact for the consumers. The EU funded programme facilitates the action of the Lebanese government to make real progress in the field of quality infrastructures and awareness. In terms of legislation, laws regarding food safety, norms and standards, and consumer's protection entered into force recently.
