Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Member of the EC in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, welcomed the lift of the death sentences of the Bulgarian nurses and said that it was time to work for a quick transfer to Europe.

the objective has to be now to find a solution which allows the departure of the Bulgarian and the Palestinian medical personal from Lybia and the transfer to Europe as soon as possible;
the EC has to study the ruling and the implications and the legal procedures with the Lybian authorities and all the others involved;
they hope that finally this tragic and long running case in which they have been working so hard can be brought to a speedy solution
