The EU Ministers for Finance of the Euro zone met in Brussels. Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the French Republic, headed for battle with the Ministers over his demands for stronger political oversight of the currency zone and a two-year grace period before France curbs its budget deficit. Nicolas Sarkozy, in a rare initiative for a eurozone leader, attended the meeting chaired by Jean-Claude Juncker, Luxembourgish Prime Minister.
