60th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome – Summit of EU Heads of State and Governments, Rome: Ode to Joy, by the European Union Youth Orchestra

On 25 March 2017, Heads of State or Government met for the 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaties, in Rome, Italy. On this occasion, the European anthem was played. The anthem symbolises not only the European Union but also Europe in a wider sense. The poem "Ode to Joy" expresses Schiller's idealistic vision of the human race becoming brothers, a vision Beethoven shared. In the universal language of music, this anthem expresses the European ideals of freedom, peace and solidarity. This video shows the European Union Youth Orchestra played the European Anthem, the Ode to Joy.
