60th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome – audience of EU Heads of State and Governments with Pope Francis
On 24 March 2017, Pope Francis received Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the EC, Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, Antonio Tajani, President of the EP and the Heads of State or Government at a private audience in the Sala Regia in the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City.
The encounter took place on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome.
On 25 March 1957, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands signed two treaties in Rome: the first created the European Economic Community (EEC); The second establishes the European Atomic Energy Community (EAEC or Euratom).
