Extracts from the joint press conference by Andrus Ansip, Vice-President of the EC, and Věra Jourová, Member of the EC, on Digital Single Market
On 10 January 2017, Andrus Ansip, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Digital Single Market, and Vĕra Jourová, Member of the EC in charge of Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality, gave a joint press conference on Digital Single Market, in Brussels. The European Commission proposed updated legislation to ensure stronger privacy in electronic communications as well as policy and legal solutions to unleash EU's data economy, as foreseen in the Digital Single Market strategy presented in May 2015. The package would additionally include new data protection rules for EU institutions and set out the strategic approach of the EC to the issues concerning international transfers of personal data.
