Leaders' meeting on the Western Balkans Migration Route, 25/10/2015
Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the EC, hosted a meeting on the Western Balkans Migration Route with the Heads of State or Government of Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia. Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, Martin Schulz, President of the EP, and several Members of the EC were also present. Leaders agreed on 17-point plan of action to improve cooperation and step up consultation between the countries along the route. They decided on pragmatic operational measures that could be implemented as of tomorrow to tackle the refugee crisis in the region. The Heads of State or Government agreed to implement the following operational measures as of 26/10/2015: Permanent exchange of information; Limiting Secondary Movements; Supporting refugees and providing shelter and rest; Managing the migration flows together; Border Management; Tackling smuggling and trafficking; Information on the rights and obligations of refugees and migrants; Monitoring.
