Foreign Affairs Council, 3382nd meeting/Joint EU Ministerial Meeting of Foreign and Interior Ministers: extracts from the common press conference

Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and President of the Foreign Affairs Council, Dimitris Avramopoulos, Member of the EC in charge of Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, and Rihards Kozlovskis, Latvian Minister for the Interior, held a joint press conference following the joint EU Ministerial Meeting of Foreign and Interior Ministers on 20 April 2015 in Luxembourg.The Council discussed migration issues, following recent events in the Mediterranean. The Ministers agreed to reinforce the fight against trafficking of human beings, to strengthen EU action to save lives at sea as well as enhance support for countries on the front line, by sharing the resettlement of refugees.In addition, diplomatic action will be undertaken to do more to resolve the root causes of migration, including conflicts, poverty and human rights violations.With much of the migration flows passing through Libya, the Foreign Ministers also took stock of the situation in that country and possible EU support to the formation of a national unity Government.
