Foreign Affairs Council, 3330th meeting: extracts from the doorsteps and arrivals
On 22 July 2014, Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and President of the Council, chaired the 3330th meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels. During this meeting, the EU Ministers for Foreign Affairs discussed developments in the Ukrainian crisis. In addition, the Council formally established an EU mission under the Common Security and Defence Policy to assist the reform of the Ukrainian civilian security sector. The Council also took stock of the situation in Iraq. Already in June 2014, the Council had voiced deep concern about the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Iraq, strongly condemning the attacks perpetrated by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The Council discussed the state of play in the Middle East peace process.
