Androulla Vassiliou, Member of the EC in charge of Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, embarked on a two-day visit to the Europa Nostra's European Heritage Congress, as well as the ceremony for the 2014 EU Prize for Cultural Heritage.
The 27 laureates, selected from 160 nominated projects across 30 countries, were honoured for achievements in four areas: conservation; research; dedicated service; education, training and awareness-raising. The award ceremony took place on 5 May 2014 at the Burgtheater in Vienna, under the patronage of Heinz Fischer, Federal President of Austria.
On this occasion, Androulla Vassiliou and Plácido Domingo, President of Europa Nostra, jointly presented the awards. Six of the winners were named as Grand Prix laureates, receiving 10 000 euros each, and one received the Public Choice Award, chosen in an online poll conducted by Europa Nostra. As well as celebrating excellence in cultural heritage work, the EU Prize aims to promote high-quality skills and standards in conservation. PHOTO SHOTLIST
