On 4 April 2014, Algirdas Šemeta, Member of the EC in charge of Taxation, Customs, Statistics, Audit and Anti-Fraud, gave a press conference on the follow up of the EP plenary vote on the discharge of the 2012 budget, at the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium. On this occasion, he outlined the measures taken by the European Commission to ensure that the EU budget is protected and well-spent. Following the European Parliament's decision to grant discharge for the 2012 EU budget, Algirdas Šemeta set out the successes in EU financial management over the past few years and where further work needs to be done.
