Winner Category 4: CityStar – Sustainable urban public transport

The demand for more efficient, accessible and environmentally friendly public transport systems to serve Europe’s growing cities has brought a revival of trolley bus networks. In Poland’s ‘Tricity’ area on the Baltic coast, the city of Gdynia has invested in new infrastructure and vehicles that have transformed the way residents get about. With co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund, Gdynia has upgraded its public transport network infrastructure and purchased 28 new, state-of-the-art trolley buses.
