Foreign Affairs Council, 3291st meeting: extracts from the press conference by Catherine Ashton
On 10 February 2014, Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, chaired the 3291st meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.
The EU Ministers for Foreign Affairs discussed the EU’s southern neighbourhood, more particularly Egypt, Tunisia and Libya. On Egypt, it assessed the outcome of the constitutional referendum held on 14-15 January. As for Tunisia, it exchanged views on progress in implementing the agreed national roadmap. The Council also took stock of political and security developments in Libya. Ministers discussed the Syrian conflict, so as to assess the Geneva II peace conference that started on 22 January, as well as the impact of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon. The Council is also due to consider the situation in Yemen. Finally, held an in-depth debate on the Eastern Partnership as well as on recent developments in Ukraine.
