In a world where energy is a major concern, the shale gas revolution in the United States has also triggered interest in the European shale gas potential. But the topic is a controversial one. A new Video News Release (VNR) seeks to put forward a balanced view of the shale gas industry in Europe and makes the case for EU action.
Shale gas is a natural gas found trapped in shale rock, 1 500 to 5 000 metres below the earth’s surface. The VNR explains the process used to extract this gas, known as hydraulic fracturing or ‘fracking’.
No large-scale commercial fracking has yet taken place in Europe and the development of a shale gas industry is at different stages in different EU Member States. The team behind the VNR heads to Poland and the United Kingdom to hear from both proponents and opponents of developing a shale gas sector.
