Third round of negotiations for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP): extracts from the joint press conference by Ignacio Garcia Bercero and Dan Mullaney
Dan Mullaney, Chief US Negotiator for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), and Ignacio Garcia Bercero, Chief EU Negotiator for the TTIP, held the third round of negotiations aimed at the establishment of a "Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership" (TTIP), in Washington from Monday 16 to Friday 20 December 2013.
On 18/12/2013, the EU and US teams also spent their day together talking to over 50 stakeholders and answering questions from them. This followed unprecedented efforts by the EU to negotiate as openly as possible and reach out to the widest possible range of interests. Dan Mullaney and Ignacio Garcia Bercero participated in a meeting of the stakeholders with representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), consumer groups, trade unions, professional organisations, business and other civil society organisations.
Both sides discussed all the topics they wanted to see covered in what was intended to be a comprehensive trade agreement. They brought together teams with expertise in a wide range of trade-related areas, as well as regulators from both sides.
During this third round of talks, negotiators made progress on the three core parts of the TTIP – market access, regulatory aspects and rules – and these would be the focus for the fourth round of talks expected in March 2014. SHOTLIST
