On 6 December 2013, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to Paris, France, where he participated in the Elysée Summit for Peace and Security in Africa with François Hollande, President of the French Republic, and Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council. This Summit was also the occasion to pay tribute to Neslon Mandela, former President of South Africa, who died on the same date.
