Visit of Johannes Hahn to Heraklion: 11/12/2013


On 11 December2013, Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC in charge of Regional Policy, went to Heraklion in Crete where he met with Stavros Arnaoutakis, Regional Governor of Crete, as well as the representatives of local authorities and entrepreneurs. They discussed how Crete can best take advantage of the new cohesion policy for 2014-2020 by specializing in sectors with growth potential. Johannes Hahn also visited some EU-funded projects, including the "Ambient Intelligence" building. The project involves the construction of the building that will house research labs of Ambient Intelligence Foundation Institute of Computer Research and Technology (FORTH), one of the largest research centres in Greece with well-organized facilities, highly qualified personnel and a reputation as a top-level research foundation worldwide. Johannes Hahn also visited the "Emmanouil Kouvidis" project, a tube and cable manufacturer, as well as the Heraklion Archeological Museum that was under renovation.
