Visit of Victor Ponta, Romanian Prime Minister, and Iurie Leancă, Moldovan Prime Minister, to José Manuel Barroso
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Victor Ponta, Romanian Prime Minister, and Iurie Leancă, Moldovan Prime Minister. The reason for this meeting was to broaden their cooperation and interconnections, both political and in terms of infrastructure, between the EU Member States and their close neighbours and partners in the East.
Discussions also focused on the strategic issue of priority gas and electricity interconnection projects between Moldova and Romania. The EC was already providing both political and financial support, and had provided €7 million towards the construction of the Iaşi-Ungheni gas interconnector pipeline, which was underway.
