European Council of Brussels: extracts from the final joint press conference by José Manuel Barroso and Herman van Rompuy

On 25 October 2013, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council, gave a final press conference in Brussels, Belgium following the European Council. The agenda of the Summit included the following subjects: digital economy, innovation and services, growth, competitiveness and jobs, and the Economic and Monetary Union (UEM). During the joint final press conference José Manuel Barroso outlined discussions which took place on access to finance for SMEs, the Commission's Regulatory Fitness and Performance (REFIT) programme, the forthcoming Eastern Partnership Summit, the issue of migration and refugees, and the drama of Lampedusa on 03 October 2013.
