José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Almazbek Atambaev, President of Kyrgyzstan. The Financing Agreement between Kyrgyzstan and the EU for the Promotion of the respect of Rule of Law in Kyrgyzstan with particular emphasis on Transparency and Accountability, was signed. The country was an important partner for the EU in the strategic region of Central Asia.
During the joint press conference José Manuel Barroso highlighted that the EU highly valued the strategic choice of Kyrgyzstan to pursue political and economic reforms and to consolidate a democratic multiparty system. He then underlined the adoption of a National Sustainable Development Strategy. Regarding economic development, the President added that the economic rebound in Kyrgyzstan in 2013 was very encouraging. The EU was committed to support the country in these efforts, including by providing macro-financial assistance for a total of 30 Million euros in the following months.
