Participation of Andris Piebalgs in the debate on the Future of Europe, in Riga
On 18 October 2013, Andris Piebalgs, Member of the EC in charge of Development, and Artis Pabriks, Latvian Minister for Defence, participated in a debate on the Future of Europe with more than 140 Latvian citizens in Riga, Latvia.
The main topics of discussion were youth unemployment, ways of boosting economic growth as well as the single currency.
The debate, which took place 10 years after the accession of Latvia to the European Union and only a few months before its entry into the euro area, was organised in the framework of the 2013 European Year of Citizens.
