On 20 June 2013, Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, went to Jerusalem where she met with Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister.The country was the fourth and last leg of a four-day visit to the Middle East.
