Statement (in German) by Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC, on the EC assistance following floods in Austria, Czech Republic and Germany
On 3 June 2013, Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC in charge of Regional Policy, made a statement on the EC assistance following floods in Austria, Czech Republic and Germany.
The European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) was set up to respond to major natural disasters and express Europe an solidarity to disaster-stricken regions within Europe. The Fund was created as a reaction to the severe floods in Central Europe in the summer of 2002. Since then, it has been used for 52 disasters covering a range of different catastrophic events including floods, forest fires, earthquakes, storms and drought. 23 different European countries have been supported so far for an amount of more than 3.2 billion €.
