EU/Russia Summit: arrivals at the plenary session and round table

On 3-4 June 2013, the EU/Russia Summit took place in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The EU was represented by Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, and by José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC. Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, and Günther Oettinger, Member of the EC in charge of Energy, also took part. Russia was represented by Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, accompanied by Sergueï Lavrov, Russian Minister for Foreign Affairs, and several other Russian ministers. Leaders exchanged views on global economic and financial developments, regional and international issues, including developments in Syria, the Middle East, Iran and North Korea. Leaders also focused on bilateral relations, including negotiations on the New Agreement. The Summit took stock of Russia’s WTO accession and discussed the state of implementation of all related commitments. The leaders also discussed energy cooperation. They took stock of the intensive work going on regarding the implementation of the Common Steps towards visa-free travel and discussed visa and mobility issues in general. Finally, the situation regarding human rights and the rule of law in Russia were regularly discussed at summit meetings.
