Press conference by José Manuel Barroso on the 2013 Country-Specific Recommendations

1 625 views

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, gave a joint press conference on the 2013 country-specific recommendations (CSR). The 2013 European Semester was in full swing. The EC published country-specific recommendations for Member States along with an overarching communication on what was needed to return to growth and jobs. The recommendations were based on a thorough assessment of every Member State's plans for sound public finances and economic reforms to boost growth and jobs.
In his speech the President underlined that these recommendations were part of the comprehensive strategy to move Europe beyond the crisis. The EC's analysis showed that most Member States were making progress on fiscal consolidation and were implementing reforms to increase competitiveness. However, José Manuel Barroso urged Member states to move quicker and to be bolder on structural reforms that could deliver growth and jobs. He added that the cost of inaction would be very high
