"The Atlantic - A Shared Resource" meeting with the participation of Máire Geoghegan-Quinn and Maria Damanaki
Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, Member of the EC in charge of Research, Innovation and Science, and Maria Damanaki, Member of the EC in charge of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, took part in the Conference on "The Atlantic - A Shared Resource" on 24 May 2013 in Galway, Ireland. Enda Kenny, Irish Prime Minister and President in office of the Council of the EU, was also present.
Máire Geoghegan-Quinn and Maria Damanaki signed the 'Galway Statement on Atlantic Ocean Cooperation' with Canada and the United States. The agreement focuses on aligning the ocean observation efforts of the three partners. The goals are to better understand the Atlantic Ocean and to promote the sustainable management of its resources. The work will also study the interplay of the Atlantic Ocean with the Arctic Ocean, particularly with regards to climate change. SHOTLIST
