On 23 April 2013, Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, received Nicolas Tiangaye, Central African Prime Minister, in Brussels to discuss the humanitarian emergency in the country. Needs rose significantly after a violent coup earlier in 2013 which uprooted nearly 200 000 people and turned another 35 000 into refugees.
