Debate on the future of the European Union, EP plenary session with the participation of José Manuel Barroso

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, participated in a debate on the future of the European Union, which was held during the plenary session of the EP. Jyrki Katainen, Finnish Prime Minister, opened this debate.
During his speech José Manuel Barroso notably thanked the Prime Minister for his personal contribution to the European project and Finland for supporting a European Union, which was first and foremost a community of values.
The economic situation placed a burden on the European societies. In this context, the President reiterated the EC's proposals to combat tax evasion and tax avoidance, underlining the aspect of fairness.
