Visit of Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairwoman of the African Union Commission, to José Manuel Barroso
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairwoman of the African Union Commission (AUC). During the joint press conference José Manuel Barroso pointed out that the strengthening of the relations between the EU and Africa was one of his top priorities. He welcomed Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma's determination to tackle issues such as education, health, agriculture, trade, science and technology, youth and women empowerment. The President also added that the EC remained committed to the economic and social development of African countries.
José Manuel Barroso then reiterated the importance of the integration, expressing his hopes that the Commission proposal to create a pan-African programme, which would support continental integration, would also be part of the final deal. He concluded by saying that at the same time Africa and the Europe had to build on a shared vision for their future relations.
