Debate on the Future of the European Union, EP plenary session with the participation of José Manuel Barroso

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, participated in the EP plenary session which focused on a debate with François Hollande, President of the French Republic, on "The Future of European Union".
In his speech José Manuel Barroso reminded that the fiscal consolidation and reforms were essential for competitiveness but insufficient to ensure maintainable growth. He also welcomed France for its efforts to ensure the integrity and stability of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU). In terms of national economies, the President praised the country for its efforts in fiscal consolidation, reforms for competitiveness and the fight against unemployment.
