Visit of José Manuel Barroso to Burma/Myanmar

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to Naypyidaw where he met with U Thein Sein, President of Burma/Myanmar, and Thura U Shwe Mann, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Burma/Myanmar. José Manuel Barroso then had the opportunity to meet with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson and General Secretary of the National League for Democracy of Burma/Myanmar, 1991 Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
The President also went to the Myanmar Peace Centre (MPC) in Yangon to sign a Joint Declaration with U Aung Min, Minister of the President's Office of Burma/Myanmar. The MPC, established by Presidential Decree, should serve as a platform for dialogue between all those concerned by Myanmar's ethnic peace processes.
