Visit of Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, Angolan Minister for Foreign Affairs, to José Manuel Barroso
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Andris Piebalgs, Member of the EC in charge of Development, received Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, Angolan Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Ana Dias Lourenço, Angolan Minister for Planning. They signed together the Cooperation Agreement "EU/Angola Joint Way Forward".
This agreement aimed to raise to a new level the relationship between Angola and the EU, by deepening the political dialogue and bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest, recognizing Angola's growing regional and international role and the importance of strengthening the bilateral relationship.
The EU was the largest donor in the country and an important economic and political partner. Under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) (2008-2013), more than €250 million had been allocated to a multi-year cooperation program with Angola and EU exports to the country had doubled since 2005. The EU was the largest exporter to Angola and its third largest trading partner overall.
