José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, received Panagiotis Pikrammenos, Greek Prime Minister ad interim. During the press conference the President said that Panagiotis's government had a clearly defined vital role to play in the following weeks. He further recalled again the Commission's strong desire that Greece should remain a Member of the euro area and that it would continue to do everything in its power for this to happen. José Manuel Barroso then underlined the importance of Greece maintaining the commitments it had made; including implementing the structural reforms that were essential for a return to growth.
