"Matthiae Mahlzeit" dinner with the participation of José Manuel Barroso

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, went to Hamburg where he participated in the "Matthiae Mahlzeit" dinner. The President made a speech entitled "A stronger Europe in stormy times" on this occasion. According to historical records, the "Matthiae-Mahlzeit" was first held in Hamburg in 1356 and was thus the oldest banquet still celebrated in the world.
