First Innovation Convention with the participation of José Manuel Barroso
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, participated in the 1st European Innovation Convention organized by the EC. In his speech entitled "The Innovation Union one year on" José Manuel Barroso presented his views on the key role of innovation in contributing to growth, jobs and well-being, saying that Innovation was the European blueprint to get the economy back on track over the course of the decade. He called for a smart fiscal consolidation and highlighted that cutting spending in key areas such as innovation, education, research and development would be exactly the wrong cut to do. The President also announced the appointment of a Chief scientific adviser, a new position created in the EC.
José Manuel Barroso then participated in the award ceremony of the EU Prize for Women Innovators which rewarded people who dare thinking differently and pursuing their ideas.
