Debate on economic governance and on the Brussels European Council of 09/12/2011, EP plenary session with the participation of José Manuel Barroso
José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, participated in a debate on economic governance and on the Brussels European Council of 09/12/2011. The President confirmed that the EC would bring forward to 23/11/2011 the adoption of the 2012 Annual Growth Survey, setting out the EU's policy priorities for growth and jobs for the next 12 to 18 months. At the same time the EC would come forward with the proposals on further strengthening the economic governance of the euro. The President added that the truly systemic crisis EU was going through required an even stronger commitment from all.
He highlighted it would be necessary in the future to go even further on strengthening integration. This would require Treaty changes to reinforce the EU, the Community method, the European institutions and the sense of common purpose. The President eventually underlined that the euro was a central part of the EU and not something separate or apart.
