RegioStars Awards 2011: Sustainable and innovative mobility – Funchal, Madeira
Pollution problems due to traffic are not proper to big cities. Even in Funchal, capital of Madeira, traffic congestion is a reality. To improve the air quality and the citizens daily life, an innovative project called Civitas Mimosa was launched, with a global view on mobility. By promoting alternative transport modes, such as busses, bikes or walking, the city intends to change people’s attitude towards transports and therefore to reduce its ecological footprint and become more attractive for tourists.
