European Summit, Copenhagen, 14-15/12/1973

A European Summit was held on 14-15 December 1973 in Copenhagen under the Presidency of Anker Jørgensen, Danish Prime Minister. The Heads of State or Government of the nine Member States of the European Communities, among other things, adopted the declaration on the European identity. This will enable them to achieve a better definition of their relations with other countries and of their responsibilities and the place which they occupy in world affairs. They have decided to define the European identity with the dynamic nature of the Community in mind. They have the intention of carrying the work further in the future in the light of the progress made in the construction of a united Europe.
