As part of the United Nations Interim Administration in Kosovo (UNMIK), the European Union is in charge of economic reconstruction and stimulating economic activity in Kosovo. This includes rebuilding war damage and creating the framework for the development of a modern market economy, as well as developing Kosovo's administrative and legislative framework in order to bring it close to European standards.
The EU Pillar is divided into four departments - Central Fiscal Authority, Public Utilities, Trade and Industry and Reconstruction - each of which is headed by both an International and a Kosovan representative.
