Participation of Androulla Vassiliou in the award ceremony of the Juvenes Translatores
On 27 March 2012, Androulla Vassiliou, Member of the EC in charge of Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, participated in the 5th edition of the Juvenes Translatores award ceremony, in presence of Rytis Martikonis, acting Director-General of the "Translation" DG of the EC and Chairman of the Management Board of the Translation Centre for the bodies of the EU (CdT), in Brussels. On this occasion, she gave a speech to open the ceremony and presented trophies to the winners of the 2012 Young Translators contest, organised by the European Commission. Twenty-seven secondary school students, one from each Member State, have been invited to Brussels to receive their award and a diploma for producing the best translation from their country. The 2012 theme was volunteering in order to mark the European Year of Volunteering 2011. Each student selected a one-page text written in one of the EU’s 23 official languages on this topic and translated it into any of the other 22 languages. Although many chose English as a source language, the total number of language combinations used was 148, which is the highest since the contest was launched in 2007. The number of entrants was the highest ever at more than 3,000.
This video shows also the group photo and a presentation on Mongolia to illustrate the theme on volunteering. SHOTLISTLINK
