European Competition Forum 2012: keynote speech by Joaquín Almunia
On 2 February 2012, Joaquín Almunia, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Competition, gave a keynote speech on the occasion of the first European Competition Forum held in Brussels.
More than 500 high-level participants were attending the event, including representatives from national ministries and local government, European institutions, national competition authorities, business and consumer organisations, think tanks, and international organizations, with the objective to look at European competition rules.
In his speech, Joaquín Almunia referred to the comprehensive modernisation of the control of State aid in Europe. This comprehensive reform would have the following objectives: taking quicker decisions; giving a better focus to the enforcement work; and supporting the efforts that were being made across Europe to boost growth.
